Manually install the Android app

The Paperpile Android app is temporarily unavailable in the Google Play Store while we develop a new version. If you already have the app installed, you can continue using it as normal. New users can install the app manually by downloading our official APK installation file.

Step-by-step installation guide

1. Download the app

  1. Tap the link below to download the official app installation file (APK):
  2. If prompted, tap Download to confirm. You’ll see download progress in your browser:
An Android Downloads screen showing “Paperpile-v1.3.8-4194460.apk” downloading, with 24.56 MB of 152.62 MB complete and 36 seconds left.

2. Open the downloaded file

When the download completes:

  1. Swipe down from the top of your screen to open Notifications.
  2. Tap the downloaded .apk file.

3. Allow installation from this source

Android will ask for permission to install apps from outside the Play Store. This is a standard security feature and is safe when installing from official sources like Paperpile.

  1. When you see the prompt, tap Settings.
  2. Switch on Allow from this source.
The Android “Install unknown apps” settings screen for Chrome, with an “Allow from this source” toggle switched off and a warning that the phone and personal data are more vulnerable to attack from unknown apps.

4. Install the app

After allowing installation from this source:

  1. Tap Install.
  2. Wait a few moments for the installation to complete.
  3. Tap Open to start using the app.
An Android dialog headed Paperpile asking “Do you want to install this app?” with Cancel and Install buttons, over the greyed-out “Install unknown apps” screen.
